There is something about grey that i find provides equally soothing and fresh feeling as all the white interiors in our home. I think both colours complements each other really well. Don't you agree?
I get asked a lot for advice on interior styling. More recently...
I thought i would share my answer to this here on my blog [and btw, i find it so humbling that some of you find my style inspirational].
Start with a base of white on walls. Then slowly add a touch of colour by accessorising. A grey sofa against the white wall for example is a beautiful way to begin [if white sofa is a no go]. I find that complementary colours makes the room appear bigger and less cluttered. Nothing complements each other more than white and grey.
When accessorising, choose wisely. Less is always more. Adding pieces that adds interest, function and form as well as aesthetically pleasing that complements the whole room. Which brings me to the subject of clutter free and minimal approach. It's very difficult to keep things minimal, i know. Especially if you add children to the mix. But it can be done.
Adorn your white walls with some poster prints. I love these Andy Warhol prints from King & McGaw in thin black frames with none reflective perspex to add some interests to the room.
For small accessories, add stand out pieces like candleholders and vases in various shapes yet similar colours. This By Lassen candleholder is from Made Modern.
A marble table with simple white frame also adds that elegant and timeless style to complement the grey sofa. This one i have is by Serax Belgium from their 'Marble & Terrazzo' range. They have different sizes to choose from so depending on your space available, you can opt for size that's suitable for your space.
Of course, you can also add beautiful ceramics which not only serves its function, they too add interest like my never ending collections of Serax Belgium teapots. I'm obsessed with them. They made me start drinking tea again.
To add warmth to the room, a few sheepskin rug is a must. This Scandinavian Pelssau Rugs is my new addition to my collection from Milabert.
For finishing touch, fresh flowers! Every week, i treat myself to a bunch. :)
For us, having a Scandinavian style home was not planned at all. It just happened naturally. I would say it's more of a lifestyle. When adding pieces, i tend to gravitate towards simple elegance.
