I've decided this year is definitely the year to tick things off on my very long 'to do' list. Hayden's room being the priority.
Hayden didn't really like to stay in his room much let alone sleep in it. I don't really blame him to be honest. I didn't like the room either. But i miss my bed space. I'm starting to ache from crouching like a ninja on the side of the bed. Hanging off the bed for dear life. It's no longer comfortable and fun to co-sleep with this growing toddler. The punches and kicks we suffer in the middle of the night is getting stronger and hurts a lot more now. He needs to move out from our bedroom. He had a cheek a couple of weeks ago to tell us that we're squashing him and accused us for snoring, and apparently, we are breathing on him..?! He demanded more space. Lol.
His old bedroom had a very dated carpet and as much as we tried our best to make it as comfortable, there was something about it that didn't sit right. The carpet.
Hayden also needed a new bed. He has outgrown his cot bed a long time ago. It took me a very long time to decide what bed he will have. I even asked a carpenter to make him a custom made house bed but i changed my mind... almost every child on instagram now have a house bed. Lol. So i searched. For over 9 months. Or is it a year? I can't remember now.
I always had the Busunge Bed from Ikea on my basket as a standby. There is a particular bed i wanted to get him but it is so impossible. So, without further delay of the makeover process, we ordered the Busunge bed once and for all. In case it will take a further year before i find the bed i wanted. Lol.
Then, there was the floor. I knew i wanted white floors. But finding the perfect white floors again, proved to be so bloody difficult! We are not planning on staying long in this house and we didn't want to spend a lot of money doing it up. I wanted a compromise but looks good. I found the floors after months of searching locally and online. I purchased them only very recently. I ran out of time to faff around as the bed was due to arrive. You might say it gave us incentive to prioritise and get things moving.
But guess what..? Old flooring revealed themselves under the carpet. My heart skipped a beat. In that 2 seconds, i knew the floors will have to be painted. We're having painted floors! White painted floors! Hooray!!!
I have always wanted to have painted floors.
Lee did a great job with preparing and painting the floors. I love it! He also painted a coat on the wall to re-fresh. Hayden picked an off white colour for his room. The sample card is called 'Wink, Wink' from B&Q. He insisted that's the colour he wanted because it will go better with the white floors. But, it's so close to the white that we already have and i don't really see the point in buying and spending more money on paint so, we just painted it with our leftovers from when we moved in. Btw, he thinks he's got 'Wink, Wink' on the walls. Please don't drop us in it. Lol.
He also wanted a bookshelf, a canopy and animal print posters.
I got him the canopy which he absolutely love! And, as luck would have it, i won a giveaway on instagram! A shelf! So, i will make that as a bookshelf. I also placed an order for the animal prints he wanted but.... and a big big but.... they don't yet deliver in Jersey! I haven't told Hayden this yet. I am currently finding ways for them to get to Jersey. I just can't let him down.
The bedroom is not quite finished yet. I am still looking around for some accessories. I am deciding on a wardrobe too. I will post an update once we have added a few things in. Maybe, when the bookshelf arrives and in the room.
So far, Hayden is loving his new bedroom. So much so, that he slept in it last night. To my surprise! I felt both happy and sad. It really is bittersweet to see your baby grow and find their own independence. In my heart, he is forever my baby tho.
I hope you like it too! Happy weekend.
